This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is God’s word. (Luke 8:11, NLT)

A Word For Writers

A feature article is different from a news article. Both report on a topic, person, or event. But a news story sticks to the facts. 

A feature article goes further. It offers analysis about the subject. And here’s a twist: two or even three (or more) writers can put together a feature article about the same topic, but each can highlight a different facet.

Case in point: Matthew, Mark, and Luke. Each one wrote a feature article on seed production in different types of soil. Each offers analysis … but their analyses differ.

• Matthew: “The seed … represents those who hear the message but don’t understand it” (13:19). Sometimes, God’s word falls on confused ears.
• Mark: “The seed … represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan take it away” (4:15). Sometimes, listeners are blocked from hearing God’s word.
• Luke: “The seed is God’s word” (8:11). Sometimes, God word is simply scattered to any who will hear.

Same subject. Different analysis, each with a unique angle.

When you write a feature article, highlight one facet of your subject.
