An online devotional for writers

A Word From The Word

Your faith in him is being talked about all over the world. (Romans 1:8, NLT)

The Ezine and email newsletter templates with Word Wise at Nonprofit Copywriter. A #devotional based on Rom 1:8 #WritingTips

Email newsletter templates fall into two categories: templates for layout and templates for content.

The first of those – pre-formatted graphic layouts – allow you to choose and use to create your own online ezine, even if you lack tech skills. (I use Constant Contact for my email templates.)

The second category of email newsletter templates guide you to produce quality content. A solid content template includes ...

  • Feature stories: content that show readers the impact of your work
  • Practical information: hands-on content that readers can use
  • News: information to keep readers in the loop

We like to think that today’s digital writing skills have helped this format to evolve. Yet the Apostle Paul pioneered this approach in his letters. Just take a look at his epistle to the church at Rome as an example.

  • Feature stories: Paul starts out by describing how the Romans are having impact: “Your faith is being talked about all over the world.”
  • Practical information: Paul uses his newsletter to give a clear, systematic explanation about God’s plan for salvation.
  • News: Paul shares updates about the workers who are with him in Corinth as he wrote the last chapter of the letter (Romans 16:21-23).

Impact, practicality, news: Paul’s letters are ideal email newsletter templates for us to follow as we prepare newsletter content today.

A Wise Word

Offer stories of impact, practical help, and news in your ezine.

A Word To Pray

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for Paul’s letters, which show me how to write stories of impact, give practical information, and share news in my ezine. Let me follow that format when I write email newsletters.

In Jesus’s name, Amen.
